TOMS — male cats.
MOLLIES — female cats.
QUEENS — female cats with kittens/has no kittens at the moment but is known to have had many (elder), or has made clear that she will continue to produce more kittens (still young).
DAM/SIRE — mother/father.
KITTENS — babies, children; sometimes a demeaning term (i.e. “Would you two stop behaving like immature kittens?!”). A loving mother may never really stop referring to her broods as kittens, no matter how old they may become ingame.
CLUTTER — very small group of 2-5 cats.
CLOWDER — 6-20 cats.
COLONY — 21-50 cats.
GANGS — there are two here in San Diego; the Cobalts and the Vermilions, mostly in Downtown, though they do have branches pretty much everywhere else within San Diego. They both have a self-proclaimed never-ending vendetta against the other, though the reason for this is not quite known, and some cats wonder whether the gangmembers even remember anymore. They have been this way for many years, some of the older cats say these two gangs were established during the late nineties or so.
This is true, and though the Cobalts and Vermilions themselves are no longer aware of this, their founders were inspired to create these gangs by observing the two Human gangs, the Bloods and the Crips. Oh, what shame they would feel, then, to learn they were based off of Humans, quite literally the Man, the bane of their very existence!
Their founders had also not intended for their gangs to become such intense enemies, they had merely made two gangs named after blue and red colors to be even more similar to the Bloods and Crips. They wanted to be allies and create a better, more united society, instead of the scattered crime-infested town they lived in.
But these cats were influenced by Humans, and as we all realize... Humans always need something to hate, something to drive them... and, well, the Cobalts and the Vermilions were no different.
THE SIMPLE-MINDED — some cats did not absorb the intelligence of humans over the centuries, despite being in such close contact with the twoleggeds for so long, and these are the felines descended from those uncomplex ancestors. They act like common animals with no real language besides body-language, plain meows and other such nondescript sounds.
Most of them, when feral, depend completely on their core instincts to survive. When domesticated by Humans, they depend completely on them. These cats are how nature initially meant for them to be: loners in general, only really gathering for mating or some other benefit. It is impossible for them to apperceive the meaning of ranks other than a vague pecking order. In short, they are animals as one would expect them to be.
Occasionally one is born whom seems to be stuck in-between being sentient and animalistic; they can learn to understand Cat, but too much confuses them, and they can mimic Cat words like a parrot if they try hard enough, comprehending Human languages even less.
LEASH-LICKING HUMAN-LOVERS — dogs. Dogs are on the same level of intelligence as the cats, with their own simple-minded ones. However, most completely devote themselves to humanity, something many felines cannot understand. These dogs discriminate against cats heatedly, chasing them whenever in sight and at times even maiming, killing, and sometimes eating them.
It is somewhat reminiscent of the Human White/Black racism way back when, and in some cities some dogs joke of “Garfield Laws,” a feline/canine version of the Jim Crow Laws. It is no secret that Humans widely favor dogs over cats, and this has given nine-out-of-ten dogs a holier-than-thou view on life, because the higher species of the planet loves them more.
Man's best friend, they brag. Man's most hardworking slave, cats fire back.
THE OWNED/THE MASTERED/DOMESTICS — Sentient cats that voluntarily choose to live with Humans, and allow themselves to be spayed/neutered. It depends on the individual's view, but there are a good lot of felines that look down on these cats, more than a little.
FREECATS — sentient stray/feral cats. The ones within their own societies often carry a rather high opinion of themselves for not needing a Human caretaker, while the ones that live on their own think there is absolutely nothing to be proud of when you are struggling to merely survive every day, trying not to become alopeciatic or get hit by a speeding car.
BODY TYPES — a.) cobby. A compact, stocky body.
b.) foreign. Asian-type cat. Thin, light.
c.) semiforeign. A cross between cobby and foreign.
(of course, don't let this restrict you! Make any bodytype you want!)
COITUS — mating.
POLYESTROUS — female cats are "polyestrous," which means they may have many heat periods over the course of a year. A heat period lasts about four to seven days if the female is bred; if she is not, the heat period lasts longer and recurs at regular intervals.
CATTERY — a place for the breeding, raising, or care of cats and kittens. In most cases, the cattery itself is part of a Human's household, be it a bedroom, a spare room or a special room built in the basement. The care and comfort of the cats is of primary importance when designing the room that will serve as the cattery. Some cats consider themselves lucky to land itself in a cattery, while some loathe the idea—because sometimes kitten mills are wrongly labeled, “catteries.”
LITTER/BROOD — kittens born together from one mother. Kittens within a litter are known as littermates.
TRILL — kittens and cats expression of happiness. Cats, sentient and simple-minded alike, use this type of vocalization as a greeting.
WEAN — discontinuation of nursing, when a young kitten has adapted from their mother's milk to other food.
CAT HOARDER/CAT COLLECTOR — Human who acquires and hoards great numbers of cats but does not provide proper care. They are unaware of their own shortcomings or the distress they cause to the cats they acquire. Sentient cats avoid these Humans like the plague, and they are probably one of the reasons many sentient cats have such a profound distaste for humans.
ORGANIZED CRIME — this is not an uncommon thing within the world of sentient cats. It's certainly not exclusive to San Diegan felines, either. For something called “organized crime,” it's not that orderly. It has a strict familial hierarchy, yes, and bodyguards, true; cats to work for them, do their bidding or face death, it's in their possession. But that's about it. They don't have a drug trade like Humans do, unless you count catnip—which some do squabble for, as absurd as that may sound to a Human like you.
There is only one major crime syndicate within San Diego at the moment, the Esposito family. They are not as large compared to some other cat mob families within the USA, but are still a force to be reckoned with. They regularly steal kittens to raise as c.servants, bodyguards, and other such things.
